SUBJECT:

Change to Instructions for Processing Insurance Stipends for Post Doctoral Scholars

DATE:

April 14, 2008

On April 4, 2008, Corporate Payroll Services posted instructions for processing Health Insurance Stipends for Post Doctoral Scholars who receive payments via the noncompensatory payment system. Based on a decision by the Post Doctoral Procedures Committee, those instructions have been modified to better clarify the monetary amount allowable for the health insurance deduction and to clarify that dental and vision insurance cannot be processed under the new Wage Type 4052.

Additionally, Benefits Accounting will no longer be accepting Memos to set up journal entries to pay for any dental, vision, and health insurance premium payments. The Post Doctoral Procedures Committee is currently exploring how/if dental and vision benefits are allowable for payment through a grant's Institutional Allowance and will publish information once the questions have been resolved. For the month of April, dental and vision deductions will be taken from Noncompensatory recipients 4002 stipend payment.

Thank you for your support and flexibility Duke implements this new policy.
