Average Cost per Square Feet
Based on FY 09/10 Budget

The average cost per square foot is provided for those Duke University and Duke University Health System buildings where a budget has been established. Buildings are grouped by building number as defined in GAP NO. 200.260, Building Identification Numbers. The square footage is obtained from Plant Accounting's space assignment system (STAR). The average cost per square foot is based on building maintenance & operating expense and environmental service expense. Two Calculations of average cost are provided and described below:

Average Cost Per Assigned Square Foot:
This calculation should be used to determine what financial impact would occur by occupying space in a given building, it should be utilized by occupants or potential occupants of a building.

Average Cost Per Net Square Foot:
This calculation describes the expense for maintaining the facility at-large, it should be utilized by senior administration, project managers, and building managers.
